EXHALE: Gentle Invitations to Rest and Breathe in God’s Love

Some of your favorite EXHALE emails all in one place!

In spiritual direction, two persons pledge to listen together for God’s voice in one of their lives. Spiritual directors are trained and practiced in recognizing and reflecting the presence and work of God. The focus of a spiritual-direction relationship is your experience (or lack of experience) with God. The true “director” in this relationship is God. I am simply a gentle guide.

Spiritual direction presumes that God is at work and communicates through ordinary human experience. In that experience, we find God’s invitations, urgings and confirmations. I am a prayerful companion on life’s spiritual journey.

Why do most people come to spiritual direction?

  • Seeking God in the complexities of life

  • Finding the “old ways” of faith are no longer working

  • Growing in self and God awareness

  • Looking for a safe and confidential place to process life and decisions

  • Wanting to heal their image of God and self

  • Longing for greater intimacy

“I have the privilege of having Judy work alongside me in Sustainable Faith’s School of Direction. What a gift she is to me and to the students. She brings a wealth of training and experience to our cohort. More importantly, she is someone who is committed to being ‘on the journey’, the journey of growing in her own spiritual and emotional health. In my book, that immensely qualifies her to accompany others on their journey. I’m deeply thankful that God arranged our partnership in the work of spiritual formation and training in spiritual direction.”
